Regarding your comment in the introduction about having to talk to Google about Gmaps for Europe (in the context of the big companies seemingly ignoring europe): * rant* Why do european bloggers only watch american companies? */rant* :-) Seriously, though: Maps are a nice example where you will often get superior ones from local players.

Because I like the ways the maps are presented and how I can use them. I am – just at this moment – looking up maps via viamichelin and am hating it because it does not work as I want it too. A google map would.

If European countries do as good stuff in this regard then americans, than I will be happy to switch. But usually they don’t promote themselves enough and second if I am looking at maps with everything in french, I will not be happy about it.

And btw – I did receive two nice links today which will help. And they are local. But still they do not do what a google map does as in being able to just wiggle around.

Ok, that sounds like a valid point. Although I’d say that (germany based) map24 offers quite a similar experience, but by means of a different technology (java applet).

If I may blow my own horn, have a look at map.search.ch, which is Switzerland only but uses the same technology as gmaps (but doing it half a year longer, actually).
